Havent forgot about you

It has been awhile since my last post. I havent forgot about anyone just been really busy with school. Some great things have happend. I learned waxing, got certified in Brazilian Keratin treatments, plus this week I am learning manicures and pedicures.

I have been really wanting to get on the floor. I am hoping to be able to get alot of artistic type cuts. I know in a school enviroment I wont get much but I have been out there marketing myself getting people to come in. Really hope to have more going on soon to blog about but just wanted to let people know I havent forgot just spending alot of time working.

My first style and color

I did not cut this but I did style and color it. I used a 6Rc on top and a 5RC on bottom. The lighting is bad so you cant get much detail and I could have used a little more product but I thought it was hot in real life. Hope you guys share in my joy.

Denver's Women's Expo

This weekend was the women's expo. We had a booth set up and it was fun. I got to spend all day Saturday and Sunday promoting and selling products. I remembered how fun it is to interact with people.

The greatest thing was it was something I was passionate about. I got the chance to sell products I believed in. I got the chance to promote a school that I believe in.

It really helped to remind me why it is that I am getting into this industry. Sometimes sitting in a classroom all day you can forget about alot of real world things. It is great when you get the chance to do something like this, something that really reminds you of why it is that you are doing what you are doing.

Meeting the World Famous Yosh

Today was AMAZING. If you say the name Yosh outside of the professional hair world you will probably be looked at funny. But in our world this man is insane, a living legend.

Let me set the seen for you. I go to school today and I am ready for god knows what. We head up stairs to the classroom and here stands this 5 ft little Asian man. At 72 years old you would expect him to not be able to cut hair very well.

This man started cutting hair 45 years ago. He studied directly under Sassoon (yes the guy who made the shampoo LOL). He was named in Modern Salon's top 50 most influential hair dressers EVER.

I watched him cut 3 peoples hair in the time it takes most people to cut one. And they were absolutely beautiful haircuts. Truly today was an honor to meet and learn from a man with such talent and yet still so humble. I will be posting a picture of me with him soon. Truly today was one of those days that will shape the course of my career and my life. The knowledge he shared and the advice he gave all of us individually and as a class will carry with us for the rest of our lives. I just hope and pray I will be half as good as him ever (especially at 72).

Update on my runway

Originally I wanted to do long hair designs in the runway, updo's and the like. Unfortunately no one had signed up for men's sculpture. So my teacher came to me today and asked me if I would mind trying out for it. Naturally I said yes.

I figure that I would be good at it. Crazy thing is the only reason I didn't sign up for it originally is because a friend didn't want me to compete against them. Messed up they signed up for nail art. So far I will be competing against one other girl.

This should be an easy wrap up though of course I will still practice everyday and work my butt off. I hate to say it though the women in my school cannot cut men's hair. I should know I have allowed most of them to try on mine.

Now that we got the new American Crew barbers program I am hoping that will change. Do you know how hard it is to find a woman that can cut a man's hard worth anything?

I am hoping to have some pictures up of some updo's and braiding by the end of this weekend. Keep an eye out.

3 strand underhand braiding and finishing technics

Today was a fun day. We started off by combing out some pin curls we had set last week. Still have alot to learn there.

Then we went to cutting increase layers. We did some with the shears and some with the razor. I have to be honest and say that the razor is by far my favorit tool so far.

We used many differnt technics so that we could cover a variety in one cut. My favorite method is slideing with the razor.

After finishing the cut we went into a brief finish up. I felt a little behind the class only because I have never used a flat iron or a blow dryer. The good thing is though the teacher loved my finsihing work and I have the drive to be the best so reguardless I will get it.

After lunch we had a test on Design 101 and I felt like I did a good job. Not great but good, some of the wording tripped me up. I guess if I knew it better then the wording wouldnt have tripped me up.

Once we finished that we started to learn underhand braiding. I was somewhat familiar with this but I picked it up reather fast. I am hopeing to have some pics up soon.

A little about me

I have recently started school for cosmotology at Xenon International. I am about a month into it but I love it already.

I am trying out for my first runway show next month so I have alot of work to do. The position I a competeing for is usually taken by a senior, but I believe I can do it.

My goal is to be a world renowned hairstylist. I have crazy designs in my head that I believe people will love.

I will be posting pictures of my work so I look forward to showing everyone.

By the way I am straight before I get the same question everyone asks.
